DEC has a projects and Training unit which undertakes various projects aimed at uplifting the status of women in the society.  Emerging needs of women and problems that retard their progress are identified. Once this identification is done, special intervention programmes are then developed to cater for those needs.  Such projects include Adult Literacy and Numeracy programme; training of Traditional Birth Attendants; Gender Awareness; training of male Community Development Associations (CDA); and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion.  Each of these projects is like a means to an end, the end being improvement of the living condition of women.

DEC adopts participatory approaches in the identification of emerging women needs, as well as in the development and implementation of responsive projects to cater for those needs.  Advocacy is also integrated into the projects.
